2019 FAR NIENTE NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY

One of Napa Valley’s most historic wineries, Far Niente, was founded in 1885 by John Benson, but with the onset of Prohibition, the winery closed in 1919. Sixty years later, Gil Nickel bought and restored the property, releasing the first vintage of Far Niente wine in the modern era, an estate-bottled 1979 Napa Valley Chardonnay that has been a namesake to the winery for over four decades.

The grapes are grown in the Coombsville AVA, known for its more temperate climate and volcanic ash soils that give Far Niente’s Chardonnay its signature stone and tropical fruit flavors with a crushed rock minerality. The wine does not go through malolactic fermentation in the production process, which preserves the crisper malic acid, providing extra freshness on the palate and extending the wine’s longevity for years of drinking pleasure.

2018 FAR NIENTE NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY

When making a list of Napa Valley’s most paradigmatic and historically significant Chardonnay producers, the name Far Niente is carved in stone, quite literally. The winery was established in 1885 and prospered until prohibition in 1919.  In 1979 wine country pioneer Gil Nickel purchased the Estate and during the three year restoration, the name Far Niente was found carved in stone in front of the winery where it still remains today.  Nearly forty years later, their Chardonnay is considered by many to be a Benchmark for Napa Valley Chardonnay.

2013 FAR NIENTE “DOLCE” (375ML) DESSERT WINE

Stunning qualities that near omnipotence… beginning with a show-stopping bouquet infused with honeyed peach, almond and butterscotch…  An otherworldly, silken texture caresses your palate, as beautifully defined flavors unfold… literally giving you goose bumps.  Embarking on their first vintage in 1985, Dolce, created by its’ sister winery Far Niente, has undoubtably become one of Napa Valley’s most treasured dessert wines.

Arising from Dolce’s 20 acre vineyard in Coombsville, the blend marries late harvested Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.  Bred from a combination sunshine, soil, fog, expertise, dedication and a little bit of luck… when all these elements are just right, a condition called noble rot, or botrytis cinerea, which is a mold that removes water from the grapes, providing the extraordinary richness, silky textures and complexity and resulting in an absolutely world-class dessert wine…

2017 FAR NIENTE “NAPA VALLEY” CHARDONNAY

Composed from superlative vineyard sources located in Napa Valley’s idyllic Coombsville region, the 2017 Chardonnay holds true to the Far Niente style of rich opulence and lavish detail.  It reveals mystical elements that come with finely laced tropical notes, liquid floral and toasted almond.  Fans of top-quality California Chardonnay shouldn’t miss this stunning release.

2012 FARELLA “COOMBSVILLE ESTATE” CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Cabernets from Farella Vineyard can retail for as much as $150 per bottle, like Realm’s 2012 Farella Vineyard Cabernet which garnered a whopping 96+ score from Robert Parker…   Robert Parker notes that, “In the past, much of this fruit went into early vintages of Opus One”. At just $64.99 with shipping included, Farella’s Estate Cabernet is an impressive value…

Winemaker Massimo DiCostanzo, former assistant winemaker at Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagle crafted one of the best Farella Cabernets yet… With just 13 barrels produced, the wine spent 22 months in French oak. We’ve recently tasted Farella Cabernets from the early 90’s that are still stunningly impressive, and this 2012 has the potential to be the best yet…

Planted in the ’70’s, fruit from the Farella Vineyard is sourced by some of Napa Valley’s most elite producers including, Realm, Far Niente, Pahlmeyer, Keenan, Relic, and Lail. At about half the price of other wines from this premium vineyard, the 2012 Farella is a huge win.
