2014 EHLERS ESTATE “ST. HELENA” CABERNET SAUVIGNON
In grape growing, much as in real estate, location-location-location is absolutely essential. And when your neighbors include Chuck McMinn’s renowned “Aida” Vineyard, Turley and Revana, wine lovers should pay keen attention. Founded in 1886, Ehlers Estate, located just North of St. Helena, quietly produces some of the most classically styled Cabernet Sauvignon out there. Beginning with riveting aromas of dark chocolates, creme de cassis, white flowers and spice box, then gradually building definition, setting the stage for a deep, memorable core of blackberries, gravely minerals, roasted coffee and chocolate mousse.
From a vintage that’s becoming recognized for powerful, fully developed flavors, this wine was expertly crafted by Kevin Morrisey. Kevin previously made wine at Stags’ Leap Winery as well as Etude where he worked alongside industry leader Tony Soter. Checking in at 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, and from a neighborhood that likely averages North of $100/btl, I highly recommend a case of the 2014. We loved this wine so much that we’re thrilled to be pouring it by the glass in our Yountville store.

Winery Notes: “This is a grand, sophisticated, Cabernet Sauvignon from the loamy benchland soils of our estate vineyard. The wine is layered with blackberry, black raspberry, chocolate mousse, and carries a compelling density. Focused acid, firm tannins, a touch of spice, and finishing with impressions of black licorice. Classic and complex, this is a fine Bordeaux-style Cabernet blend that will age for decades.”
