2017 LAIRD COLD CREEK VINEYARD CHARDONNAY
The best proof that we’ve introduced a truly special wine, is when we still get requests for more and glowing comments long after the initial offering… Out of all the value Chardonnays that I’ve introduced, Laird not only tops the list of the most consistently requested, but it’s been a muse of poetic reflection. This speaks to the absolute quality of the wine… Laird’s winemaker is Brian Mox, who spent several vintages crafting the high-scoring Lewis wines, and the newly released Cold Creek Vineyard Chardonnay has already earned high-praise by the Wine Spectator. At $30/btl, this vintage eclipses every expectation at this modest price point.
Arising from Laird’s Cold Creek Ranch Vineyard, located in the slightly cooler microclimate of the Sonoma side of the Los Carneros district, the 2017 shines bright with a variety of citrus fruits, freshly baked lemon meringue, buttered pineapple and a touch of vanilla. The 2017 combines a lovely weight and rich texture with remarkable balance, and it simply drinks like a white wine that I’d like to enjoy a lot more of.
