Members of the Corino family are highly-respected for their organic farming and expert-level winemaking. They’ve been farming their vineyards in Annunziata, one of the hot-spots for Barolo since the 1950s. They do extensive pruning in the vineyard 2-3 times each vintage to achieve the perfect balance of ripeness and flavor. Their Barbera d’Alba at under $25 is a ridiculous value, and as Vinous writes, “absolutely delicious.”
Giuliano Corino has 20 acres of vineyards, and just under four are Barbera vines. These grapes are grown in well-drained clay and calcareous soils, and in 2016, they truly shined.
The Corinos are also innovative in their winemaking, and were one of the first to green harvest in the 1980s, which removes extra clusters, balancing leaf coverage and yields. They’ve also experimented with shorter, temperature-controlled fermentations, and the quality of their wines has become a reference point for the region.
