2017 DOMAINE CHRISTELLE BETTON CROZES-HERMITAGE CAPRICE
|
“….from the estate’s oldest syrah vines, planted 30 to 40 years ago in the stony soils of La Roche de Glun. Vinified without added yeasts and aged in used barrels for a year, it’s enticingly floral and spicy, with cool restraint to its plummy fruit-think cold plum at peak ripeness, eaten outside on a warm summer day.”

“A suave, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe dark berries, cherry preserves, incense and exotic spices, with succulent herb and olive notes in the background. Concentrated but lively as well, offering sharply defined blackberry, bitter cherry, candied violet and exotic spice flavors and a late jolt of spicy cracked pepper. Clings with strong authority on the penetrating, floral-driven finish, which is framed by slowly mounting tannins.”

“Hints of violets and mint perfume the nose of the 2017 Crozes Hermitage Caprice, a selection of the estate’s oldest vines. Aged in older barrels, this full-bodied, creamy-textured wine is a beauty, loaded with blueberries and floral notes and finishing silky and long. It should drink well for at least 4-5 years.”

“Meaty, perfumed, silky, grainy – really lovely Crozes which combines dark, brooding, savoury notes with excellent structural balance. It’s light enough to drink freely, yet complex enough to be really engaging. Top drop! (RH)“
