DuMOL is perennially one of my all-time favorite Chardonnay, Pinot & Syrah producers in California.  Robert Parker alerts readers about DuMOL, “...one of the superstar wineries of the entire California North Coast...”  For my palate, DuMOL produces some of the most balanced, elegantly styled and sophisticated wines available…

These exemplary and tightly allocated releases were expertly composed by superstar winemaker Andy Smith.  All of these wines are simply remarkable, each one beautifully reflecting the incredible vineyard locations from where they came, and always exceeding expectations in each and every vintage.

2014 DuMOL “EDDIES PATCH” SYRAH

From the Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine, “DuMOL is hitting on all cylinders these days, and this Syrah, often a CGCW favorite, also rushes to the very top of the category with its smoky, meaty varietal adjuncts and its clear, keenly focused blackberry fruit aromas supported by a fair dollop of toasty oak. Taking advantage of a minerally streak, the wine gains complexity and longevity through flavors that are at once high in volume and concentration yet are still somewhat tight and loaded with promise for great growth as its tannins round out.” 92 Points

From Vinous, “The 2014 Syrah Eddie’s Patch Greywacke Vineyard is the first wine from a site that will inform this wine until Hoppe-Kelly comes back on line. Tasted from barrel, the 2014 Eddie’s Patch is deep, dense and noticeably sweet through the middle, all a reflection of this relatively warm site planted with Alban clone Syrah. Today, the 2014 is a bit raw and not fully put together. It will be interesting to see what more time in barrel brings. This is a strong set of new releases from DuMOL. Winemaker Andy Smith has really dialed in his approach here over the last few years, and it shows. Harvest dates have been moved up, while in general Smith is seeking a bit more freshness in his wines than was the case a few years ago. That is especially true of the Chardonnays, which now also spend eleven months in barrel followed by six months in tank, a fairly classic aging regime today in Burgundy that is less common in California.” 91-94 Points
