2014 MCPRICE MYERS “RIGHT HAND MAN” SYRAH
A wine of immense richness and irresistible charm, McPrice Myers’ Right Hand Man Syrah has been a go-to for top-quality yet incredible value California Syrah for years. In fact, referencing a history of terrific wines under the Barrel 27 label, Robert Parker’s the Wine Advocate notes, “These value-priced efforts… offer ridiculously good drinking for not much money.” The 2014 opens up to a sybaritic harmony of sweet black cherries, smoked meats, charcuterie, pulverized black fruits and spring flowers… As the wine blossoms in the glass, rich and inviting flavors coat your palate in layers of pure, extravagant fruit, unlocking new components with aeration. At $21/btl this is another over-achieving, terrific value red, which we’ve now come to expect from McPrice Myers.
Fashioned from some of the best Syrah vineyards positioned on the West side of Paso Robles and Santa Barbara, the 2014 has a dense, mineral-core and plenty of showy, ripe fruit. This blockbuster Syrah was brought up for 22 months in French and American oak barrels and was blended with a small amount of Petite Sirah and Viognier which add new components to the awesome aromatics and rich stature. At under twenty five per bottle, I strongly recommend securing a case.
