One word can tell you a lot about a wine and in the case of Balade, which translates to wandering, the name defines the essence of this new project by Joe Wagner. With each new vintage, Joe will choose the most compelling and nuanced expression of Pinot Noir from a single site and release as a limited bottling. Joe Wagner’s Belle Glos Pinot Noirs are created in such an extravagant style that they’ve carved out their own category, and in doing so it took the entire Pinot Noir world by storm. In July of 2015 Joe split off the value priced Meomi label from Belle Glos and sold it to Constellation Brands for an eye-popping $315 million… When we found out about his new single vineyard project, we couldn’t wait to taste it.
Birthed from a single site located in the Santa Maria Valley of Santa Barbara and during the 2016 growing season, this particular vineyard was a stand-out for its fruit and undeniable complexity. Joe felt this vineyard expressed the quintessential qualities of its origin, with intensely flavored, dark-berry aromas and flavors. Just like all Belle Glos Pinots, it’s one of the deepest and most intense California Pinot Noirs with a generous style that’s resonated with wine lovers who enjoy a richer and more ripe style of Pinot Noir.
