2016 BLACK PINE “SONOMA COAST” PINOT NOIR
Analogous to the high school football player that looks like he could be playing for the NFL, Black Pine’s 2016 Pinot Noir is big, powerful and completely defies expectations at this price point. With crushed black fruits, candied plum, caramelized cherries, dried rose and allspice charging from the glass, the wine’s stacked mid-palate is in perfect balance and without a single hard edge. Perennially high-scoring and without a false start, this is my number one pick for value Pinot Noir this Fall.
This formation is by Drew Huffine, whose experience includes working with many elite Pinot Noir producers including Kosta Browne, DuMOL, Auteur, Copain and Donum… The 2016 was concocted from carefully chosen vineyards located in the Petaluma Gap, Russian River and Sonoma Coast. If you’ve tasted any of the earlier vintages of Black Pine, you already know what to expect… This is yet another big score from a team that we adore.
