2015 CHÂTEAU PONTÊTE BELLEGRAVE GRAVES DE VAYRES BORDEAUX
With Bordeaux prices steadily rising, sometimes it pays to look just outside the expensive regions and uncover value in areas that share similar soils. Graves de Vayres has produced some stunning wines and the region borders Canon Fronsac, and sits just across the river from the hallowed ground of Pomerol and St Emilion. Then add one of the Bordelais most desired vintages, and it’s something to pay close attention to. Chateau Pontete Bellegrave’s 2015 is beautifully detailed and firmly concentrated and packed inside of a generous yet muscular frame are micro-layers of red and black fruits, crushed violets, cocoa dusted chocolate truffles and hints of graphite. A terrific value, this lovely Bordeaux is rarely imported into the US, and when it is, it unfailingly generates plenty of flattering comments and re-orders.
A perfectly choreographed union of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon that offers penetrating intensity and soft elegance, gliding across your palate with focused black raspberry, dried cherries, plum and wild rose. If you enjoy complex, delicious, full-bodied reds, this one’s an excellent value at under forty per bottle.
