2017 E. GUIGAL SAINTES PIERRES DE NALYS CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE

$49.99 $49.99

It’s big news when the greatest producer of Côte Rôtie wines in the world purchases holdings in Chateauneuf-du-Pape…  E. Guigal’s iconic trio of Côte Rôtie known as the “La La’s” (La Turque, La Mouline and La Landonne) earn regular 100 Point scores and go for hundreds of dollars per bottle.  Guigal has been producing Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines since the 1940’s with purchased fruit, the acquisition of Domaine De Nalyswill make them first-time growers in the area.  The deal includes 124 acres of vines in La Crau, Séneseau and Grand Pierre which are three of the greatest areas for Chateauneuf-du-Pape.  It always pays to get in on the ground floor with new projects and especially when it’s a project by Guigal.  This wine likely won’t be under $60 bucks for long.

The 2017 Saintes Pierres De Nalys was forged from vines averaging 45 years in age, from almost equal parts Nalys, La Crau, Bois Senechal vineyards.  The wine is incredibly elegant, attractive and absolutely profound with penetrating ripe cherry, boysenberry, dried spices, crushed stones and cocoa powder.  This wine absolutely should not be missed.

Description

2017 E. GUIGAL SAINTES PIERRES DE NALYS CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE

From Jeb Dunnuck, “Coming from tiny yields (the estate was down 40% in 2017), the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Saintes Pierres De Nalys offers a ripe, medium to full-bodied, balanced style as well as lots of classic dark berry fruits, licorice, garrigue, and peppery goodness. Balanced, with a great core of fruit, it’s a softer, more forward, charming wine than the grand vin and is ideal for drinking over the coming decade.” 92 Points

From Wine Advocate, “The first vintage vinified under Guigal ownership, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Saintes Pierres features hints of garrigue layered over expressive cherries and mixed berries. Full-bodied and supple, with a long, peppery finish, it should drink well young. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 23% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 8% Counoise, 6% Muscardin, 2% Mourvèdre and 1% Terret Noir. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.”
