NV CERBAIONA ROSSO VDT
$33.00 $33.00
Now, this is NOT your ordinary Italian Rosso… Cerbaiona is one of Montalcino’s top producers whose Brunellos can fetch upwards of $200/btl. This multi-vintage Rosso includes 2017 and 2018 vintages of their declassified vintage Rosso di Montalcino and other Tuscan grapes. For perspective, their vintage Rosso di Montalcino goes for around $65. The blend includes 90% Sangiovese heightened with 10% Pinot Noir, which adds another dimension of lush and supple fruit. At $33, this wine is ridiculously good.
Cerbaiona built the VDT Rosso centered around declassified Rosso di Montalcino and other Tuscan grapes. Because it doesn’t spend the required time aging before release, the fruit is brighter and more lively than you would expect from Brunello.
The Pinot Noir came from a tiny two-hectare vineyard in San Donato, and the Sangiovese is a blend of Estate Vineyards and leased vineyards in Val D’Orciam. On the palate, the wine offers classic bing cherry, sassafras, dried rose, and cocoa hints.
